SINGAPORE, February 23, 2004 - Stratech Systems Limited ("Stratech") announced today that its state-of-the-art intelligent undercarriage surveillance and vehicle access control system, iVACS™ - which can scan and detect foreign objects placed on the undersides of vehicles, to prevent certain potential terrorist attacks - will be deployed to screen vehicles at the Asian Aerospace 2004.

The Singapore Exchange Main Board-listed company said it has secured a contract from the Singapore Police Force to deploy iVACS™ - which stands for intelligent Vehicle Access Control System - at several locations in Singapore this week - including Suntec City, the venue for an aviation / security conference, and the Changi Exhibition Centre where the exhibition will be held this week.

About 758 exhibitors from 33 countries are taking part in this year's exhibition which is also expected to attract thousands of visitors, including high-profile, international delegates. The patent-pending iVACS™ is being deployed as a key part of the authorities' efforts to ensure total security for the whole event.

"Stratech is working very closely with the Singapore Police on this deployment to ensure the security of the delegates from all over the world. As many of the delegates are senior officials, their security and protection is of utmost importance," said Stratech's Executive Chairman and CEO, Dr. David K.M. Chew.

"Through the deployment, we hope to showcase iVACS™ as a total vehicular homeland security solution which can be deployed in any country and at any event. It is the only system of its kind; its unique capabilities lie not just in its ability to automatically scan vehicles and detect relevant objects, but to transform, in a real-time, intelligent manner, such data into vital information that can be integrated with larger command-and-control, decision-support systems. Because it is mobile, it can also be deployed in car parks in commercial buildings and would also be of interest to building owners," he said.

While iVACS™ was deployed in Singapore in recent months for the visit of President George W. Bush of the United States, this is the first time it is being used on such a scale and for an event such as Asian Aerospace. Several iVACS™ systems have also been previously sold for deployment in other local and overseas locations.

Factsheet on iVACS™

iVACS™ is the first access control security system of its kind available in Singapore and in the world, providing complete and effective monitoring and control of secure vehicle access.

It offers the ultimate solution to the inspection of undercarriages and secures vehicle access. It speeds up security checks and effectively aid security personnel conducting gate operations, especially in the detection of drugs, contraband, bombs and weapons. It can also be operated remotely to ensure the safety of security personnel.

More importantly, iVACS™ is an intelligent system. Whereas many existing undercarriage surveillance systems today still rely on the operator to interpret the data, iVACS™ extracts the information and interprets it for the operator, enabling him to perform his tasks more quickly and to take decisive action immediately.

iVACS™ performs automatic licence plate recognition, vehicle undercarriage scanning and driver verification in an integrated manner. These features are described as below:

•  Vehicle/ Licence Plate Recognition

- Automatically identifies the vehicle against past records and determines applicable access rules.

•  Undercarriage Scanning

- Automatically identifies foreign objects hidden under the vehicle and portions of the undercarriage that have been tampered with.

•  Driver Verification

- Automatically captures the image and identity of the driver. Alternative verification methods or techniques using smart cards and biometrics, such as facial, palm, finger-vein, hand vascular or fingerprint recognition, may be incorporated.

iVACS™ is the next generation vehicle access control system designed to simplify and speed up the inspection and clearance of vehicles entering and/or leaving secured facilities, sensitive areas, as well as those crossing border checkpoints. It is built with intelligent capabilities to capture composite images of the undercarriage and piece them together to form a complete, seamless image. Comparing the image with previously stored images, iVACS™ is also able to intelligently detect any discrepancies in the images and alert appropriate security officers.

In addition, the system can also automatically identify foreign objects hidden under the vehicle and portions of the vehicle undercarriage that may have been tampered with.
